CLUB RELAYS

     Wow cows, did we show up or what !!! Club Relays was a wildly successful meet with many impressive performances. The men took 2nd overall and women took 3rd overall! There quite simply, is too much to highlight in one moosletter... that is why you have to check out the all time records! See how you/your team scored on the list of top 10 performances in each event on our website under the records tab! Here is a link to the pictures! We are waiting on results but will notify you when they are out!

CAREER development talk
This Tuesday at 7:30PM we are having a career development talk from a WIll Jordan at northwestern! If you are available, i would highly suggest going to union south at 7:30pm to hear him speak! The specific room the talk will be held in will be posted on the big tv looking boards scattered around u South! rumor has it there will be pizza👀👀

CONCESSIONS
Friday at 3pm we are in need of volunteers for Concessions at the kohl center! If you are available please please please volunteer! The money made from concessions goes directly to lowering meet fees and we want to see some fresh faces helping us out! If 60 of us competed at club relays this weekend, surely we can get 15 of you to help at concessions. here is the link to sign up!

Please become an authorized driver if you are a Wisconsin resident! All the info can be found on the website! Remember, we need two authorized drivers per vehicle! THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU HAVE TO DRIVE! But hey, someone has to drive to meets, don't let it be the same people every time!

TIME TRIAL

     We had some stellar performances by our cows at this year's time trial! Almost 60 cows came out (20 more than last year) and competed against one another for some fun and bragging rights of course. To start out the evening we had Patrick Fasick finish first in the mile with a time of 4:27.7. And for the ladies, Allie Levin won with an impressive 5:41.8. Next came the 200m where Adam El-Hendy (23.28- 200 m time trial champ two years in a row) and Jordyn Benn (30.64) took the top spots. The 800m race showcased some speedy cows with the champions being Haley Orf (2:27.8) and Tommy Martin (2:00.6). The 4x400 meter relay was an exciting event with the top team finishing in 4:06.

This thrilling time trial would not have been possible if it wasn't for our volunteers that timed the events and helped everything run smoothly. It looks like we are in for a very exciting and speedy season from our cows!

Elections are tomorrow! It is very important that we as many people that can go to vote for our future board members as possible! Elections will be head in Humanities 1111 at 7:30pm! Please please please be there! And for those of you running for a position, make sure your speeches are ready!

 

milk mile

The annual milk mile is this Friday at 6pm at Ed Klief Park! You can sign up on the spreadsheet linked here if you are looking to take the treasured 1st place finish held by Nathan Orf the past three years. And if you don't think you're up for the challenge, we could use some volunteers! See you Friday:)

 

holiday lights run

Our last social event of the year will be the Holiday Lights Run to Olin Park! We will all meet up at P&L one last time to run through the holiday lights on Wednesday, December 11th at night! There will be more info about this event coming out soon! Mark your calendars until then!

Jacob Reiner has been working hard to update the performance list all season! This list contains all of the times the cows have run this year at every meet! Check it out to review how your season went! On another note, Jacob has also been keeping an all time records spreadsheet up to date! To see if you are in the top 10 in either the 8k or 6k, check that out here!

Following winter break is the start of indoor track season! We will meet in the shell (by Camp Randall) Monday-Thursday at 5:30! For distance, workouts will be inside the shell on Monday's and Wednesday's  and regular runs will be outside (if weather permits) on Tuesday's and Thursday's. Sprinters will meet inside the shell every Monday-Thursday at 5:30pm! Remember in order to get in to the shell you need to bring your wiscard!!! The time trial will be on the Friday we get back from break! Spread the word and get your fellow runners, jumpers, throwers, etc interested!

Elections coming up

This is an announcement for you cows to start thinking about running for a board position in December! There are a lot of board positions that cater to everyone's unique set of skills and as Frankie says, if no one runs the club, the club doesn't run. Start to think about what position you would be good at! We will be creating a google spreadsheet with brief summaries of the duties of all the board members and hold elections for the candidates on December 3rd.

 

Apparel

Your apparel is coming! Do not fret, we will get everyone their apparel as soon as we can! That time is still TBD but this is just a little reminder that it is on our minds and you will be notified as soon as it is here!

 

Regionals recap

Regionals. What a day. All of our cows who competed did so well and should be so proud of themselves! To start off... the boys got 2nd as a team with Sam Jaeger placing 9th overall and Patrick Fasick placing 10th! Way to go boys!!! The girls got 3rd as a team with Aasne Skram Troemborg placing 9th overall and Allie Levin placing 10th! I also wanted to thank everyone who came and congratulate all of our cows for running their hardest! Shoutout to our drivers, shoutout to Allie and Luke for all the work they put in to plan these travel heavy meets, and shoutout to our other two photographers Luke and Joe! Unfortunately, the results have not been posted yet so I am unable to link those but I do have some pictures! Here those are!

The most anticipated social event of the entire year. This really is as big of a deal as we are making it out to be. Brinner will be taking place at the cow haus on Thursday, November 7th at 7:30pm! Yes, that is right. PM! Please do not come for a breakfast at 7:30 in the morning.

You heard it! We have another study night coming up on Monday, November 11th at 7:30-9:30 in Helen C White 4275! Join your fellow cows to get some studying done during a busy time of year!

sign up for meets

Competing in meets is what WTC does best, it is what sets us apart from other running groups on campus! Don't forget to sign up for meets, especially regionals and little nationals! Not only is it a great way to keep you motivated to stay in shape (or get in shape) but it is such a great way to get to know other cows and strengthen those bonds! A little reminder about meets: if you drop a meet after the deadline, you still have to pay for the meet; however, I would encourage you to find someone to take your spot so that another cow who wanted to compete can and so you don't have to pay the meet fee (because the person taking your spot would pay). Here is the meet sign up, and don't forget, the Kollege Town Sports Invitational sign up deadline is Saturday, October 5th at midnight!

 

Authorized drivers & Safety module

This is just a little reminder that we could use all the authorized drivers as we can get! Becoming an authorized driver is a very easy and short process (instructions) for Wisconsin residents, so please help us out and become one! REMEMBER you do not have to drive if you do not want to! We just need to have two authorized drivers per vehicle! ALSO everyone, please fill out this safety module. It is required that every member complete this.

Don't forget that we have RACE on Saturday mornings from 9:15-10:15! We have a volunteer spreadsheet on the website and facebook page if you are interested in some of these volunteer opportunities! There will be more in the future, like working the concession stands!

 

Roy griak recap

Our cows traveled to Minnesota this past weekend and competed in the Roy Griak Invitational and boy did we represent. We ranked first among the other club teams on both the men's and women's side! Thank you to the Dado's for hosting a magnificent pasta party and our other families for having overnight guests! Here is a link to the pictures- thanks to Matt, Joe's dad, and myself. You heard it folks here folks! We are going to Screaming Acres Haunted House on Friday, October 11th! Since we will be taking only personal vehicles to this social event, we will have a spreadsheet for you to fill out (like you would to compete in a meet) so that we can accommodate everyone and make sure we have enough cars! Make sure you fill that out and please bring your car if you are able!

THE PREMIERE EVENT !!!!!! We will be going to Schuster's Farm on Friday, October 25th! Arguably, the best event of the fall season...come get your pumpkins and caramel apples people! Again, there will be a facebook event for this and a spreadsheet to fill out!

Folks, sign up for formal! The 2019 WTC Formal Awards Banquet will be held on 4/19 at the Fluno Center. I'd like to emphasize that you do not need a date to formal, but the more the merrier! Sign up on this spreadsheet to ensure your participation in the feast of bottomless pasta and other delicacies. The deadline is April 13th! Cost to attend is $27.50 per person and payment can be sent to @WiscoTC on Venmo.

practice change

This week, we will be moving practices from the Shell to McClimon Track! Mid-Distance/Distance will have workouts on Tuesday's and Thursday's and will begin meeting at Park and Langdon in front of Science Hall at 5:30 every day! For those Tues/Thurs workout days, we’ll do a warm up jog together over to the boat landing where we will do drills, and then we will move over to the track to begin the workout at 6 pm.

Here is a quick note of the rest of our volunteering opportunities for the semester! We have RACE on Saturday, April 6th and Saturday, April 13th! Then, we have a friendship walk with best buddies (a club here on campus) on Friday, April 26th!

In some unideal conditions, our cows still managed to achieve! At the Carroll Invite on Thursday, Frank Deguire ran the 3k steeplechase, and became the 4th fastest time in the list of top 10 (10:51.98)! Brian Wiedenfeld ran an impressive 16:50 5k, and now holds the 10th fastest outdoor 5k in the books! As for St. Norberts, the full list of results can be found here, and here are the pictures that Luke and Danielle took (thank you<3).  Max Barreau and Adam El- Hendy both got on to the list of top 10 in the 100 and 200 meter dash and placed in the top 3 for both events! Kyle Marcoe, Trevor Glass, and John Masse made the list of top 10 in the 400 m. Jacob Biewer placed first at St. Norbert's and now holds the second fastest 110 meter hurdle time and Thomas Mengwasser now holds the 6th fastest 400 meter hurdle time! On the women's side, Josie Helf placed second and accomplished an overall 8th place on the list of top 10 along with Grace Matzke who is now 10th on the list! Julianne Logan ran the 1500m and is now 8th on the list of top 10. And finally, Rachel Weix and Danielle Moczynski both ran speedy 5k's to round out our list of top 10, placing 4th and 7th respectively.

workshop- march 6th

Okay cows, the time has come. The workshop is on March 6th and we need every member to be there at 6:30PM at the Nat, room 1140. Practice will be canceled for everyone on this day in order to make it to the workshop! Use herd finder to find some running buddies that day!

Starting the week of 3/10-3/16, we will be moving from the Shell to McClimon Track! Mid-Distance/Distance will then begin doing workouts on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We will have the track reserved from 6-7pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the rest of the school year except the week of Spring Break. Note: Mid-Distance/Distance will begin meeting at Park and Langdon in front of Science Hall at 5:30 pm starting the week of 3/10-3/16.We’ll do a warm up jog together over to the boat landing where we will do drills, and then we will move over to the track to begin the workout at 6 pm. TIME TRIAL

     We had some stellar performances by our cows at this year's time trial! Over 40 cows came out (10 more than last year) and competed against one another for some fun and bragging rights of course. To start out the evening we had Nathan Orf finish first in the mile with a time of 4:27.6. And for the ladies Sylvia Lechnir won with an impressive 5:45.2 (with Kaylee Sadeghpour-Hess just .3 seconds behind). Next came the 200m where Adam El-Hendy (24.3) and Autumn Wickman (29.3) sprinted to victory. The 800m race showcased some speedy freshmen with the champions being Haley Orf (2:29.4) and Tyler Masuda (2:06.7). The 4x400 meter relay was an exciting event with the top mens team being "Yandi" and the co-ed team being "3 Calves and a Bull" featured in the picture above.

This thrilling time trial would not have been possible if it wasn't for our volunteers that timed the events and helped everything run smoothly. It looks like we are in for a very exciting and speedy season from our cows!

DUES
Dues for this semester are $30. You can Venmo @WiscoTC or if you don't have venmo, we also accept cash or checks.

FORMS
To officially become a member of Track Club, visit our website to fill out the 3 required forms and request membership through WIN. Don't forget to become an authorized driver (@ wisco natives)! Here is a link to our website on how to become a member.

The combination of birthdays (@Danielle), leftover Olive Garden breadsticks (@Joachim), Spoons champions (@Frank, Kevin, & Haley), and cute puppers made for an entertaining weekend. Additionally, the cows killed it in their races, with both teams finishing 2nd overall. On the men's side, Joachim Weel-Rosbo finished in first place with a time of 26:26. Rounding out the team score for the male cows were Kevin Dado (26:54.90), Nathan Orf (27:17), Nick Juntunen (27:39.70), and Sam Jaeger (27:39.70). On the women's side, Zoe Panos led the team, finishing in 5th with a time of 24:01.20. Rachel Anderson (24:24.20), Sylvia Lechnir (24:45.40), Autumn Wickman (25:12.50), and Megan Buechel (25:20.80) also scored for the cows.

We have two strong teams going into NIRCA Nationals in Lexington, Kentucky. In the A race will be Matt Kuik, Joachim Weel-Rosbo, Kevin Dado, Nathan Orf, Sam Jaeger, Luke Kubasta, and Owen Gage. For the women, it will be Zoe Panos, Allie Levin, Emma Jackler, Kaylee Sadeghpour-Hess, Rachel Weix, Danielle Moczynski, and Sam Weiler. It should be an exciting race all around! Get pumped for an 8 hour car ride, a fast course, and some great memories. As always, make sure you have paid dues and filled out all the required membership forms. ALSO, remember to represent the club well in Kentucky, this includes being respectful to other teams and NIRCA property. You'd think this is common sense, but we've had issues in the past. So please just think before you act!

Our apparel coordinator, Sabrina Belisle designed some awesome clothes for the fall order form. The deadline to order apparel is THIS  Sunday, November 4th @ Midnight. Griak was a major success on both the men and women's sides. It definitely helped that it was 50 degrees cooler than last year... The top 5 finishers on the women's side were Brooke Young (24:19.7), Sylvia Lechnir (24:56.0), Megan Buechel (24:57.0), Rachel Anderson (25:13.6), and Autumn Wickman (25:48.1). Freshman Brooke Young lead the team with a 10th place overall finish! On the men's side, the top 5 finishers were Matt Kuik (25:40.8), Joachim Rosbo (26:22.3), Kevin Dado (26:41.4), Sam Brey (27:39.3), and Sam Jaeger (27:41.9). There were three top 10 overall finishes: Matt in 3rd, Joachim in 7th, and Kevin in 8th. Both teams are looking strong, let's keep training hard and get ready for the post-season! Congrats to everyone who competed, and thank you to everyone's families who hosted the cows.

Men's Distance VP, Nick Feyen, recently shared a post on facebook that I thought would be valuable to share in the Moosletter as well. This is what he said:

If you’re feeling some “not good” pain (you know what I’m talking about) while running, if you can’t go to practice or train because of a current or pre-existing injury, or if you just aren’t sure if your body is going to hold up for the season. I want to help. I’ve had countless injuries over the years and know how crappy they are. I know how tough not having a “plan” can be. So, I thought I provide a list of campus area resources to deal with injury.

RecScports Athletic Training. RecSports and UHS offer a free athletic trainer for sport clubs or anyone who is a student. This is a great free resource. I’ve used them a lot. You can get in to see someone quick. They can diagnose a problem and provide some strengthening exercises. Unfortunately, it seems most of them aren’t experienced with competitive runners, so they may not quite understand the in’s and out’s of our sport. Still a great, easy place to start. I personally like Andy Winterstein.

UHS Physical Therapy. UHS offers physical therapists for students. It is a small fee to go see a UHS PT (about $50). They can develop some exercises and some good ways to strengthen your body to overcome your imbalances. The best way to see them is with a recommendation from a campus AT. Again, limited running specific experience here. I was recommended to see Colleen Colby when I went as she has dealt with runners more often.

Schupp Chiropractic. Dr. Andrew Schupp is the closest thing we have to a miracle worker in Madison. Dr. Schupp was a very talented runner himself and is a sports chiropractor certified in ART, Graston, Laser Therapy, and Cupping. He can find the problem and start actively adjusting you to actively fix it. He’s a chiropractor so you probably should supplement his treatment with some outside strengthening exercises. You will also probably have to pay out of pocket (around $60) unless your insurance covers him. Personally, going to see him was the best decision I’ve ever made. Also, it’s going to hurt. A LOT.

UWHealth Running Lab. Personally, I’ve never used it, but I’ve heard great things. It’s a UWHealth clinic designed for runners. They do a lot of gait and other analyses to find a solution to your problem. Not exactly sure what all goes down, but they seem to be pretty good at their science. I’ve heard this will also cost you a fair bit if your insurance doesn’t cover it.

Your friends and teammates at WTC. Other runners can often provide some helpful advice! A lot of us have been through a lot of injuries and know how to come out better than you were before. Just having someone to talk to about it can help a lot. If you don’t know who to talk to feel free to reach out to me. I’ve love to help. I love talking about aqua jogging and “grinding in the shell.”

Whatever you do please don’t fade away from the club after being injured. Stick with your cows. Do your rehab. Keep grinding. #CowsAchieve
