Moosletter — Week of Ocober 11th!

cross country schedule

It's the best time of the year...leaves are changing, temperatures are dropping, and lead carts are tearing across the nation. Join us for some (or all) of our cross country meets this season! Sign up can be found here. Reach out to meet coordinator Aimon Van Houten with any questions. This is your reminder that you must have signed the NIRCA form in order to race at Regionals and Nationals. PLEASE sign up to be an authorized driver. The process has changed, and it's pretty easy to be authorized, especially if you're from Wisconsin. We are required to have two authorized drivers per car when we go out of state. You can find information about the process here. Please also note that if you have more than two outstanding meet fee requests, you will NOT be able to attend a meet until you have paid. Feel free to reach out to treasurer Wil Lackner with any questions.

  • Badger Classic: Shoutout to all the Cows who braved the weather delays to kick off their season at Badger Classic!! WTC took home the world record and showed out against some incredible D1 competition. Find results here.
  • Lakeshore Time Trial: Congratulations to everyone who dodged the bikes last Friday on the Lakeshore Path! It was great to watch everyone kick off their season so strongly. Congrats to crusty cow Adam Kitay on the win in 15:18.37!! You can find results here.
  • UWO Fall Titan Classic: The Cows were tragically unable to race this week, but we'll come back better than ever at Border Battle next weekend.
  • Border Battle: IT'S A WTC SWEEP!!!! Congratulations to everyone who raced (especially to everyone who raced for the first time!) and brought home the win for both the men's and women's teams. Dasha Vorontsov (1st), Ryann Wagner (2nd), Claire Matthai (3rd), Selin Guress (4th), and Mara Larson (5th), scored for the women, and Mason Weber (1st), Jack Krusinski (2nd), Adam Kitay (3rd), Nathan Simon (4th), and Jacob Alejandro (5th) brought home the sweep for the men. Great work, everyone! You can find complete results here.
  • Steve Travis Invite: They may have missed the thrill of an in-person Badger win, but these Cows gained something more: the glory of racing at Steve Travis. The men took the win out of eleven teams, led by Mason Weber (2nd), Owynn Garrelts (3rd), Jacob Alejandro (7th), Sam Keuler (12th), and Ashton Yarrington (25th). Great work! Whitney Sylvester (4th), held down the fort for the women, and did a FANTASTIC job with a top ten finish (as well as on the takeover :)). Congrats to everyone, and you can find complete results here!!
  • Gene Davis Invite: PBs all around! Great work to everyone who got up for the 6:45 leave time--the times did not reflect an ounce of exhaustion. Rumor had it that this year's course was set to be even faster than we've seen before, and it served the Cows well. WTC won both the men's and women's races! Congratulations to Dasha Vorontsov and Mason Weber on the first-place finishes. Claire Matthai (3rd), Ryann Wagner (4th), Lauren Tears (12th), and Whitney Sylvester (14th) also scored for the women. Claire's 22:29.1 also ties her for 2nd place on the WTC all-time 6k list list. Ryann's 22:38 is good for 6th! Great work, both of you!! Jacob Alejandro (4th), Rob Mirabello (5th), Wil Lackner (12th), and Justin Zens (13th) brought it in for the men. I guess that all of those popular demand workouts are making a difference! We were so glad to see so many faces out at this meet, and we're glad that we get to keep racing with you all semester. Cows achieve! Find results here.
  • NIRCA Regionals: GET READY FOR CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON!! Trek on down to MIZ-ZOU (University of Missouri) on October 17 and scope out the club competition before Nationals. Sign up is closed.
  • UW-Oshkosh Open: It's the last regular season race of the season!! Make a grand return to the UWO XC Ranch to keep your legs fresh for Nationals. We race on Friday, October 23, and sign up closes Saturday, October 17.
  • NIRCA Nationals: NIRCA Nats are back to Shelbyville, IN! This is our last cross country racing opportunity of the season, and we would love to see you all there on Saturday, November 7! Come try and break our Olive Garden bread stick record and spend the night with all your Cow friends to cap off the season! Sign up closes Saturday, October 31.

SOCIALS

We're so glad to be back socializing and hanging out with all of you Cows! Here's what we have on coming up for fall socials:

  • Photos for Schuster's Farm are here! Thank you to Simon for all of the content 🙂
  • Women's Social: It's hoa hoa season...watch Twilight with all the girls on Tuesday, October 20th! Location and details will be posted in the #wtc-women channel.
  • Screamin' Acres: When UW-Oshkosh Open ends, the screams begin...our Halloween-iest social will be held on Friday, October 23rd. This haunted maze isn't for the faint of heart--and legend has it that it might even be scarier than the camping bonfire stories. Sign up will open soon! Attendance is first-come, first-served, based on how many seats we have available in cars, so make sure to drive if you are able and sign up early.
  • Fall Colors Run: Connect with nature and appreciate its beauty on this annual journey to Bluemound State Park! Run (or walk) and take in all the colors that Wisconsin has to offer on Sunday, October 25th.

Stay tuned for lots more hanging out time in the near future! More details and locations are posted in Slack.

Volunteering

You can find volunteering sign up here. Please reach out to Volunteer Coordinator Whitney Sylvester with any questions. Stay tuned for lots of opportunities coming soon!

Volunteering is great for the club and great for you. If you're interested in running for a board position in 2027, you must have completed five volunteering hours in order to be eligible to run. Here's what we have coming up soon! Make sure to send your hours to Whitney so she can count them for the club and for you. If you are already signed up to volunteer at concessions, you do not need to pay dues for the semester as a token of our gratitude 🙂

  • RACE is back up and running every Saturday at 9am at Picnic Point! RACE participants do a mixture or running, walking, and jogging, so there's a pace for everyone. Meet on the grass in front of the rock wall by the entrance to the trail.

WTC MERCH

Reach out to Brand Ambassador Lottie Andersson with any questions about merchandise!

  • BSN and custom merch will be here soon! Keep an eye out for a message from Lottie about pick-up in the next few weeks.
  • We're in the process of ordering new WTC singlets. Until they arrive, you can wear any UW shirt or an alternative singlet, and we'll be restocked by the time we're required to have matching uniforms at NIRCA Regionals and Nationals.

POLE VAULT

Be sure to join the #pole-vault channel in Slack for updates about practices at MPVC. Reminder that pole vault practices cost $15 payable to Madison Pole Vault Club. We're excited to see you there!
