Moosletter — Week of September 13th!

BACK TO SCHOOL!

Welcome to another year of racing, training, and running with the WTC Cows! We're so excited to have everyone back on campus for another semester of fun, and it's so good to see so many new faces at practice, too! Make sure to join our SlackStrava, and follow @wtccows on Instagram! It's a great way to stay in the loop while getting to know your teammates.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the kickoff meeting this week! In case you weren't able to make it, you can find the slides here.

Distance practice will continue to meet at the Union South plaza at 5:30pm Monday-Thursday this week.

Sprints & Field practice continues at McClimon Track (750 Walnut St, Madison, WI 53705)  at 5:30 on Mondays and Wednesdays!

cross country schedule

It's the best time of the year...leaves are changing, temperatures are dropping, and lead carts are tearing across the nation. Join us for some (or all) of our cross country meets this season! Sign up can be found here. Reach out to meet coordinator Aimon Van Houten with any questions. This is your reminder that you must have signed the NIRCA form in order to race at Regionals and Nationals. PLEASE sign up to be an authorized driver. The process has changed, and it's pretty easy to be authorized, especially if you're from Wisconsin. We are required to have two authorized drivers per car when we go out of state. You can find information about the process here. Please also note that if you have more than two outstanding Venmo meet fee requests, you will NOT be able to attend a meet until you have paid. Feel free to reach out to treasurer Wil Lackner with any questions.

  • Badger Classic: Shoutout to all the Cows who braved the weather delays to kick off their season at Badger Classic!! WTC took home the world record and showed out against some incredible D1 competition. Find results here.
  • Lakeshore Time Trial: Congratulations to everyone who dodged the bikes last Friday on the Lakeshore Path! It was great to watch everyone kick off their season so strongly. Congrats to crusty cow Adam Kitay on the win in 15:18.37!! You can find results here.
  • UWO Fall Titan Classic: This course is so speedy--come check out UW-Oshkosh's XC Ranch and race with us on Friday, September 18th. Get some running in before that big Easter Michigan game on Sunday XD. Sign up is now closed.
  • Border Battle: OUR SIGNATURE EVENT!! Come race with us as we defend Wisconsin's borders from our most bitter rivals. Sign up closes Saturday, September 19, and the race will be held on Saturday, September 26 at Verona Area High School.
  • Steve Travis Invite: Come hit the mean streets of Stallis (West Allis, Wisconsin) for some beautiful weather and running! This is a D3 hosted meet, and a fan favorite every year. Sign up closes Saturday, September 27, and the race will be held on Saturday, October 3.
  • Gene Davis Invite: A course so fast you'll freak! The Big Apple(ton) of Wisconsin welcomes you to the annual Lawrence University meet on Saturday, October 10. This is the last racing opportunity before NIRCA championship season, and a great way to get those racing legs moo-ving! Sign up closes Saturday, October 3.
  • NIRCA Regionals: GET READY FOR CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON!! Trek on down to MIZ-ZOU (University of Missouri) on October 17 and scope out the club competition before Nationals. Sign up closes Saturday, October 10.
  • UW-Oshkosh Open: It's the last regular season race of the season!! Make a grand return to the UWO XC Ranch to keep your legs fresh for Nationals. We race on Friday, October 23, and sign up closes Saturday, October 17.
  • NIRCA Nationals: NIRCA Nats are back to Shelbyville, IN! This is our last cross country racing opportunity of the season, and we would love to see you all there on Saturday, November 7! Come try and break our Olive Garden bread stick record and spend the night with all your Cow friends to cap off the season! Sign up closes Saturday, October 31.

SOCIALS

We're so glad to be back socializing and hanging out with all of you Cows! Here's what we have on tap for socializing for the rest of September:

  • Ultimate Frisbee: During practice THIS MONDAY, September 14
  • Dinner at the Dining Hall (Four Lakes): After practice on Wednesday, September 16
  • Frun: During distance practice on Thursday, September 24
  • Dinner at the Dining Hall (Gordon): After practice on Tuesday, September 29

Stay tuned for lots more hanging out time in the near future! More details and locations are posted in Slack.

Volunteering

You can find volunteering sign up here. Please reach out to Volunteer Coordinator Whitney Sylvester with any questions. Stay tuned for lots of opportunities coming soon!

Volunteering is great for the club and great for you. If you're interested in running for a board position in 2027, you must have completed five volunteering hours in order to be eligible to run. Here's what we have coming up soon! If you are already signed up to volunteer at concessions, you do not need to pay dues for the semester as a token of our gratitude 🙂

  • Thank you to everyone who came and helped out at the Fall Time Trial on September 11! We appreciated everyone's help with timing and keeping traffic clear for everyone to run through.
  • We had a great time (and depending what time you read this, we might still be having a great time) supporting all of the Madison Ironman participants this weekend! We're so glad that WTC was able to come out and support at this awesome event.
  • RACE is back up and running every Saturday at 9am at Picnic Point! RACE participants do a mixture or running, walking, and jogging, so there's a pace for everyone. Meet on the grass in front of the rock wall by the entrance to the trail.
  • In case you're not racing at Border Battle (maybe you're a sprinter!) on September 28, we still have ways for you to join in on the fun! Direct the racers, hand out water, corral the chute, and help us put on a great meet.

WTC MERCH

Reach out to Brand Ambassador Lottie Andersson with any questions about merchandise! The WTC BSN store will open soon, as will orders for the custom merch for the semester.

POLE VAULT

We're very excited to start working to bring plot vault to WTC!! If you're interested in joining, please fill out this interest form, so that we can plan and coordinate with Madison Pole Vault Club. We're anticipating that each vault practice will cost $15 (a discount from the typical $30 price), and will include access to poles for practice and for meets. Let us know if you have any other questions!
